Goo’s everywhere – in nature and nearer to home

Dame Athene Donald looks at the kinds of molecules that can be used to make new materials.

We all recognize goo when we see it - in guises from food to playthings, slug
slime to medical ointments. But what makes a good ‘goo’ and can we control
the ‘gooeyness’? Can we learn from nature about how to make better materials
for our own lives? Dame Athene Donald looks at the kinds of molecules that can
be used to make these materials, and how understanding them can be powerful
for creating new medical treatments.
