Through lectures and guided gallery visits, this course will demystify the challenging world of contemporary art and encourage debate. It will explore why artists began using unconventional materials and processes; how to look at conceptual art; where contemporary art is displayed and what it all means!
The political movements of the sixties and seventies and the proliferation of critical theory led to a host of artworks and architecture that challenged the notion that art has to be new, avant-garde, or original. From Derrida to the Disney Head quarters, this session will demystify postmodernism and its jargon.
