Rider Haggard and the Imperial Occult Dr. Simon Magus

Rider Haggard

Sir Henry Rider Haggard (1856-1925) was a prolific and popular novelist, remembered for She and King Solomon’s Mines. Tonight's speaker introduces us to Haggard in the Occult: his fascination with ancient Egypt and its mystical glamour; his Victorian 'esoteric' Buddhism, and his place within a spiritual milieu shaped British Empire. Revisit Haggard's influential occult novels, and meet the man behind them. Simon Magus has a longstanding interest in esotericism. He has an MA in Western Esotericism from University of Exeter, where he is now reading for a PhD on esoteric ideas in Rider Haggard.
