Dr. Raven will summarise some results from a programme of educational research which has been intermittently sustained for 50 years.

Early work showed that the great majority of parents, pupils, teachers, and employers would like the system to nurture a range of high level competencies like initiative, problem solving ability, the ability to work with others, and the ability to play an active part in society. It also showed that they would like the system to nurture each pupil’s idiosyncratic talents, that is, to foster diversity.
