The last census shows increasing ethnic diversity in urban centres, coupled with an increase in urban inequality. What does this mean for the challenges and achievements of living with diversity and urban change?

Claire Alexander is professor of sociology at the University of Manchester.

Rob Berkeley is director of Runnymede, the UK’s leading independent race equality think tank.
