We will be joined by a panel of experts to discuss the prospect of an election in Zimbabwe and whether it will be free and fair.
On 31 May Zimbabweâs Constitutional Court, the nationâs highest court, ordered that elections should take place by the end of July. The elections will end an uneasy power-sharing government between President Robert Mugabe and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, which was formed following tense negotiations in September 2008.
Opponents to the president have united in their call for the elections to be delayed until later in the year, in order to allow crucial reforms to be delivered. Despite this Mugabe has set the polls for 31 July.
We will be joined by a panel of experts to discuss the prospect of an election in Zimbabwe and whether it will be free and fair. Will 2013 see the end of Mugabeâs 33-year rule and what will replace him?
The panel:
Wilf Mbanga is a journalist and editor of The Zimbabwean.
Dewa Mavhinga is a senior researcher for Zimbabwe and Southern Africa with the Africa Division at Human Rights Watch. In 2012 he co-founded the Zimbabwe Democracy Institute, a public policy research think-tank based in Harare. He is author of the recent report The Elephant in the Room: Reforming Zimbabweâs Security Sector Ahead of Elections.
