Alternatives to Religion:Harriet Law

Laura Schwartz present a biographical picture of British Infidel Feminist, Harriet Law.

Harriet Law was a deeply unrespectable woman. Freethinker, feminist and socialist, she abhorred religion, condemned the institution of marriage and was the only woman on Karl Marx's First International. A newspaper editor, lecturer and Secularist activist in Victorian Britain, her life and work were remarkable.
Dr. Laura Schwartz is Assistant Professor of Modern British History at the University of Warwick, and the author of Infidel Feminism: Secularism, Religion and Women's Emancipation 1830-1914 (Manchester University Press, 2013). She is also a member of the Feminist Fightback Collective.
