Crossing Borders is a series of talks curated by Frank Bock that invites UK and international practitioners whose work understands movement and embodiment through a variety of different forms. Art practice, neuroscience, somatics and curation underpin the many contexts where such explorations take place.
Calum Storrie is interested in how the exhibition space and movement through it affects the relationship between the viewer and the displayed objects. He will be discussing the ways in which the space and form can open up, extend and sometimes undermine the exhibitionâs narrative.
Calum Storrie is an architect who specializes in the design of exhibitions and museum interiors. He has designed exhibitions for a number of Britainâs national museums and galleries including the Royal Academy, the National Portrait Gallery, the National Gallery, The Courtauld Gallery and the British Museum. In addition, he has worked with the Wellcome Collection on a series of exhibitions (the most recent of which is âBrains; the Mind as Matterâ) and he continues to design for smaller public and private galleries. He has worked with artists such as David Hockney, Maurizio Cattelan, Gregor Schneider and Frank Auerbach in planning exhibitions of their work.
His book âThe Delirious Museumâ was published by I. B. Tauris in 2006. He regularly lectures on exhibition design at Essex University, the V&A and other institutions. His essay âAfter the Delirious Museumâ will be published later this year in the book âArtists Work in Museums: Histories, Interventions, Subjectivitiesâ by Wunderkammer Press.
