2014 Economica Phillips Lecture


Do rich and poor countries converge? This lecture shows evidence of an ‘iron law’: it takes 35 years for an income gap to shrink by half, 115 years for 90 per cent to disappear. Will international inequality persist?

Robert J Barro is Paul M Warburg Professor of Economics at Harvard University and a senior fellow of the Hoover Institution of Stanford University.
