Cosmopolitanism: some lessons from modern Indian history

Department of Sociology and Centre for the Study of Human Rights public lecture


Choosing episodes from Indian history of the last 150 years, Professor Chatterjee will examine the possibilities, limits and critiques of internationalism and cosmopolitanism in relation to anticolonial nationalism.

Partha Chatterjee is professor of anthropology at Columbia University and professor of political science at the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences in Calcutta, India.
