“Prophets of Justice challenge Profits of Injustice: What can we learn for the 21st century city?"

Free lecture by The Revd Canon Dr Jules Gomes

The global economy is on a roller coaster. Capitalism is getting its comeuppance. The walls of Wall Street have come a tumbling down. If only we’d listen to what Amos had to say 2,400 years ago! Is Christianity about ‘filling the hungry with good things and sending the rich empty away?' Can the message of the prophets change our thinking from compliance to defiance, from passivity to protest?

Jules is Canon Theologian at St German's Cathedral, Peel and Vicar for the parishes of Arbory, Castletown and Santan on the Isle of Man. Before coming to the island, he was Dwelly Raven Canon (Canon Theologian) and Artistic Director at Liverpool Cathedral and Lecturer in Biblical Studies at Liverpool Hope University.
