We will be exploring some of the striking parallels between Jung and Ibn âArabi.
Speakers: Andrew Burniston - The Way Up and the Way Down are One and the Same. Andrew studied the philosophy and phenomenology of religion under Ninian Smart and then entered a long period of intensive Jungian analysis. Over the last 30 years he has drawn upon both formative influences and published innovative essays in a number of leading journals on both sides of the Atlantic. He runs Jung courses and text reading groups in London and Oxford and has gained extensive experience in communicating Analytical Psychology to people from all walks of life.
Dr Samir Mahmoud - The Breath of the Merciful. Samir researched his Ph.D on Ibn âArabi at Cambridge. In 2011 he took up an Aga Khan postdoctoral fellowship
at MIT and in 2012 he was a Fellow at the Khalili Research Centre at the University of Oxford. He is currently Andrew Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at the American
University of Beirut. He has published three long essays: From Heidegger to Suhravardi, Mundus Imaginalis and Taâwil and the Angel (see: www.amiscorbin.com ). He is
currently completing a book on Ibn âArabi.
