Royal Society Diversity Day 2014

The Royal Society is holding its second annual ‘Diversity Day’ celebrating diversity in science. The Society is committed to promoting diversity in UK science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM) by seeking to increase participation from underrepresented groups.

Diversity Day will bring together members of the scientific community and those active in equality and diversity to discuss the key issues and barriers to improving the diversity of the scientific workforce and to share best practice and current initiatives. Part of the day will focus on Women in Science and Leadership, celebrating 50 years since Professor Dorothy Hodgkin FRS won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry.

This year our Diversity Day has a ‘bring a mentee’ theme. We encourage you to bring along your mentee (or a colleague or a friend) to find out more about diversity in STEMM. There will also be plenty of opportunities to network with others in the scientific community.

We are also holding an evening public event presenting a screening of video clips from the project Inspiring Scientists: Diversity in British Science. This will be followed by Professor Joanna D. Haigh CBE FRS in conversation with Alok Jha, Science correspondent at ITV News.

Download the provisional programme as a PDF or Word document. If you require the programme in any other formats, please contact the Diversity team.
