My life in Science: Diversity in British Science

Dr Paul Merchant from the British Library presents a short screening of video clips from the Royal Society’s project ‘Inspiring Scientists: Diversity in British Science’.

The 'Inspiring Scientists' project explores the stories of ten scientists from different ethnic backgrounds active in UK science today. From super-broccoli, to Super Bainite, from the Mars Rover mission to skincare – find out about these scientist’s lives, their childhood influences and the importance and pleasures of working in science.

Continuing the theme of ‘Inspiring scientists’ the screening will be followed by Professor Joanna Haigh FRS in conversation with Alok Jha.

Joanna Haigh is Professor of Atmospheric Physics and Co-Director of the Grantham Institute (Climate Change and the Environment) at Imperial College London. She studies the Earth’s climate and the influence on it of the Sun using data collected by satellites and computer models. Join Joanna as she speaks to Alok Jha about how she first became interested in meteorology back in her childhood, when she built herself a home weather station, and how studying physics at university helped her to make weather and climate the main focus of her subsequent career.

Alok Jha is a journalist, author and broadcaster focusing on stories about science. Formerly at the Guardian he will be moving soon to ITV News as their Science Correspondent. You can find him on Twitter at @alokjha.
