Samuel Colt: the Yorkshire connection

Commemorating the bicentennial of Samuel Colt’s birth

Speaker: Peter Smithurst – Curator Emeritus, Royal Armouries and Board Member of the Colt Heritage Center

Samuel Colt (19 July 1814 – 10 January 1862) is one of those rare people who created, and also became, a legend – to many his name is still synonymous with ‘revolver’.

Not only did he revolutionise revolver design, he helped pioneer new manufacturing technologies, which would become the foundations of the consumer society. At the heart of his success were his Yorkshire connections!
