FREE EVENING TALK: The term bespoke features in copious advertising campaigns that try desperately to promote a customised and personalised service...
... whereas historically 'Bespoke' was a word initially used to denote a unique fashion service in men's tailoring.
Penelope Sacorafos, founder of Fox and Squirrel Creative Walks and fashion walk guide, argues that the term and practice of 'Bespoke', which epitomised high-end British fashion in the 18th-century and helped shape central London, is now slowly losing out to overzealous and skewed marketing.
In response to this trend, Penelope curates an evening with four of London's most influential craftsmen and women.
Speakers include:
Davide Taub, Head Cutter at Gieves and Hawkes
Sylvia Fletcher, House Designer at hatters Lock and Co
Ian Andrews, Head of Gun Sales at Purdy
Ed Bodenham, Marketing Director and 9th generation Floris perfumer
V&A Connects features workshops, debates, discussions and demonstrations that cover every area of design, architecture and fashion. Each event is devised in collaboration with an industry partner, and brings together a range of innovative practitioners, writers, business people, and thinkers.
