Despite the obstacles and prejudices there is Black poetry in Brazil but the real task is to explain why.
Brazil, having a huge Black population, had historic determinants that meant that racial and cultural assimilation led to the path of national unity. Hence there is not and there has not been a movement in Brazil of Black poetry as well defined as, for example, that of Africans residents in France. Thsi lecure explores these issues.
