Enduring Ideas: the problem with capitalism

Dr Ha-Joon Chang asks if there is such a thing as a free market and how capitalism could be different.

In the second lecture of our ‘Enduring Ideas’ series Dr Ha-Joon Chang, University of Cambridge and author of 23 Things They Don't Tell You About Capitalism and Economics: The User’s Guide, discusses Capitalism. Dr Chang will consider if there is such a thing as a free market, whether globalisaation makes us all richer and whether capitalism can be made different. Through examining these issues he will suggest other ways of thinking about economics and promote discussion on where capitalism will go in the future.

The evening will be chaired by Dame Kate Barker DBE, former Monetary Policy Committee member at the Bank of England.

This event is followed by a pay bar until 21.00.

The ‘Enduring Ideas’ series of events is organised in partnership with the Academy of Social Sciences
