Christopher Frayling: The Yellow Peril

Sir Christopher Frayling, cultural historian and ex-Rector of the Royal College of Art, discusses his latest book exploring the powerful role popular culture plays in creating 19th and 20th century images of the Chinese.

He examines the Fu Manchu stories, Charles Dickens’ tales of London’s opium dens, and the role of music hall and film in reinforcing stereotypes and assumptions.
