Book launch event for the conservation diaries of famous primatologist and Madagascar-lover, the late Alison Jolly
The diaries of the late Alison Jolly (1937-2014) will be published this month, and the Anglo-Malagasy Society will be hosting the book launch by publisher Zed Books on this special evening. Alison's book, called "Thank you, Madagascar: the conservation diaries of Alison Jolly" charts her incredible involvement in Madagascar over five decades.
Alison was a world-renowned primatologist and pioneering conservationist, one of the greatest ambassadors for Madagascar, and indeed a friend and colleague to many in the society. Alison's daughter Margaretta and husband Sir Richard will be at the launch, along with Hilary Bradt who wrote the book's foreword. We will hear about the tremendous achievements of Alison's life, about her many connections with Madagascar, and about her diaries.
The hardback book (ISBN: 9781783603183; RRP £18.99) will be available to buy on the evening. 'A captivating and absorbing account that reveals how the people and the land of Madagascar captured her heart,' said Sir David Attenborough of this unique insight into Madagascar over the past half century. 'Without a doubt one of the very best books about conservation,' said Dr Jane Goodall.
The ticket price for the evening event includes a free bar and delicious Malagasy buffet. There will be a chance to chat with the speakers and mingle with other attendees to chat about Madagascar before and after the launch presentation.
