The growth of London in recent centuries entailed the swallowing up of small villages deep in the countryside.
This course will examine what have now become extensive London boroughs. Each which will be described in lectures followed by walks through these historic areas and each should be treated as an integrated pair of topics.
A Walk, Visit and Transport
This unusual day will use the Underground itself to study the evolution of its architecture, station design and impact on environments. All that you will need is a travel card, and we will hop on and off at various stations, to see in particular their exteriors. In between, the carriage will be an informal lecture room! Stations will include Gloucester Road, Barons Court, Turnham Green, Chiswick Park, Boston Manor and Osterley.
