Angela Barrett: Artist and Illustrator

Celebrated artist Angela Barrett, known for her poetic illustrations of Snow White and The Diary of Anne Frank, discusses her practice and inspiration with Curator Nicola Freeman.


Celebrated artist Angela Barrett, known for her poetic illustrations of Snow White and The Diary of Anne Frank, discusses her practice and inspiration with Curator Nicola Freeman. Her depiction of Snow White’s mother is on display in current exhibition at the Foundling Museum, Drawing on Childhood. Angela Barrett is one of the most highly acclaimed British illustrators. Having studied at Maidstone College of Art and the Royal College of Art, she has illustrated a number of picture books, including a re-telling of Anne Frank that has been translated into twelve different languages, The Hidden House, for which she won the W H Smith Illustration award, and Can It Be True? for which she won the Smarties Prize. She lives in London, England.
