‘Corkscrew': An Evening of Wine Tasting and Improbable Storytelling

Peter Stafford-Bow will be reading excerpts from his novel Corkscrew – the highly improbable, but occasionally true, tale of a professional wine buyer. The readings will be accompanied by a light-hearted but highly informative wine tasting, curated by Peter himself.

Join us for a tasty evening where storytelling meets wine.

Peter Stafford-Bow will be reading excerpts from his novel Corkscrew – the highly improbable, but occasionally true, tale of a professional wine buyer. The readings will be accompanied by a light-hearted but highly informative wine tasting, curated by Peter himself.

The evening includes a welcome glass of wine and several tasting samples as Peter talks us through the evening’s wines. Signed copies of Corkscrew will be available to purchase at a 20% discount on the night. Not suitable for under 18s or teetotallers.

Corkscrew is a bawdy satire set in the world of supermarket wine buying. Set in 1990’s London it features Felix Hart, a true hero of our times who we join in his relentless alcohol-soaked climb to the summit of the cut throat international wine trade.

Part thriller, part self-help manual, and part drinking companion, Corkscrew is a coruscating critique of neo-liberal capitalism, religious intolerance and the perils of blind tasting.

Described as a cross between ‘Sideways’ and ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’, the novel has become something of a cult within the wine industry on both sides of the Atlantic, thanks to its lampooning of the wine world – from the terrifying Masters of Wine examination to the ruthless behaviour of supermarket wine buyers.

“CORKSCREW will make the reader squirm, cringe, eye-roll and surely laugh out loud as he travels through the pages of this tale, negotiating, charming, escaping danger, and drinking wine with Felix.”
