Peter Stafford-Bow will be reading excerpts from his novel Corkscrew â“ the highly improbable, but occasionally true, tale of a professional wine buyer. The readings will be accompanied by a light-hearted but highly informative wine tasting, curated by Peter himself.
The evening includes a welcome glass of wine and several tasting samples as Peter talks us through the eveningâs wines. Signed copies of Corkscrew will be available to purchase at a 20% discount on the night. Not suitable for under 18s or teetotallers.
Corkscrew is a bawdy satire set in the world of supermarket wine buying. Set in 1990âs London it features Felix Hart, a true hero of our times who we join in his relentless alcohol-soaked climb to the summit of the cut throat international wine trade.
Part thriller, part self-help manual, and part drinking companion, Corkscrew is a coruscating critique of neo-liberal capitalism, religious intolerance and the perils of blind tasting.
Described as a cross between âSidewaysâ and âThe Wolf of Wall Streetâ, the novel has become something of a cult within the wine industry on both sides of the Atlantic, thanks to its lampooning of the wine world â“ from the terrifying Masters of Wine examination to the ruthless behaviour of supermarket wine buyers.
âCORKSCREW will make the reader squirm, cringe, eye-roll and surely laugh out loud as he travels through the pages of this tale, negotiating, charming, escaping danger, and drinking wine with Felix.â
