Modern Philosophies of Life

Maybe you think you have got your philosophy of life all sewn up. If so, come along and share your thoughts and hear those of others too. Alternatively you may have more questions than answers. In which case come along and ask them. With speaker John Holroyd.

Maybe you think you have got your philosophy of life all sewn up. If so, come along and share your thoughts and hear those of others too. Alternatively you may have more questions than answers. In which case come along and ask them.
Whether, as Socrates said, the wise man knows he is ignorant remains to be seen in this debate, as we consider two very fundamental questions:

1. What is your personal philosophy of life in the sense of how do you view the world and your place within it, and how do you find meaning – if at all?

2. Do we have a philosophy for humanity as a whole? Is there some admixture of ethical, economic and political thinking that perhaps makes sense of our history and gives us hope for the future too?

For many, the days of grand theories like Marxism have gone and some would say good riddance. But then what is left? A listless unrequited desire for answers or a sense of exhilaration as our freedom to think offers us ever new horizons of possibility?

Come and join in this interactive and doubtless fascinating journey in the discovery not only of yourself but also of others.
