Adamsâ practice encompasses a range of artistic media, from lo-fi materials to hand held devices. Recent collaborative commissions include work with the University of Manchester and FACT (Liverpool).
Ben Coode-Adamsâ practice encompasses a range of artistic media, from lo-fi materials to hand held devices. He often works in collaboration with others, like his recent project Towards a Museum of Zereos and Ones, a collaboration with sociologist Kris Cohen from the University of Surrey and Professor Hilary Kahn from the Department of Computer Science at the University of Manchester.
They are researching and building a narrative of computer history that values personal perspectives, anecdotes and reminiscences alongside technical developments to build a more complete story of computing focusing on Manchesterâs collection of orphan artefacts, from the earliest days of electronic computing, developing a narrative correcting US revisionism that paints the UK out of the history of computing.
This research is a basis for visualising this narrative, ultimately working towards a permanent museumâ”a âmemoria technicaâ.
The masterclass will analyse the role of the museum in reaching and engaging with diverse audiences and examine the problems of presentation and display within this environment. By looking at visual information relating to Benâs areas of current research, participants will discuss and develop ideas, relating directly and indirectly to the presentation of visual material in a range of contexts.
