Dr Jenny Macleod explores Australiaâs experience of the First World War and traces how it has been remembered ever since. July and August 2018 mark the centenary of what General Monash termed âThe Australian Victories in France in 1918â.
Australiaâs pride in its military role in the First World War has been used as the basis of its national identity. The 21st century has seen an intense period of emotional and political investment in the commemoration of the Anzacs.
