Saturday Series 2019 - A Plastic Ocean

We'll be discussing the ongoing plight to save our oceans from plastic pollution.

Jo Ruxton is CEO of Plastic Oceans UK and producer of the multi award winning documentary ‘A Plastic Ocean’. She joins us for the final Saturday Series talk of 2019 to discuss the increasing issue of plastic pollution across the globe.
With an estimated 8-12 million tonnes of plastic waste entering our oceans each year the production of this versatile but indestructible product has now well and truly outpaced the planet’s ability to deal with it and the world’s ecosystem is crippling. At this event, Jo will talk not only about the affect it’s having on our marine life including whales, dolphins, turtles, seabirds and coral reefs etc. but also the risk of human harm from the toxins that make their way from the plastic particles in to the ocean and up through the food chain. She’ll also talk about how, through education, science and policy we can change attitudes, make a positive difference and build a sustainable future for generations to come.
