Cradle to Cradle: A Roadmap for the Next Industrial Revolution

Michael Braungart, Green Party founder, former Greenpeace chemist, businessman, and visionary, proposes a radical path to eco-effective industrial systems design.

Michael Braungart, Green Party founder, former Greenpeace chemist, businessman, and visionary, proposes a radical path to eco-effective industrial systems design. Together with architect William McDonough, he challenges the accepted notion that industrial activity must be reduced in order to minimize damage to the natural world. They propose a new Industrial Revolution that is founded on ‘Nature’s surprisingly effective design principles, on human creativity and prosperity, and on respect, fair play, and goodwill’. According to Braungart, waste-free industrial systems would yield toxic-free products composed of either biological or "Technical" nutrients that can be seamlessly recycled into new products or broken down to nourish the living systems of the biosphere. In this Voices event, Braungart will discuss this revolutionary, achievable, and fundamentally sane model of industrial design - a system that demonstrates in practice how ‘we can love the children of all species - not just our own - for all time'.
