The
first lecture is by Virginia Pérez-Ratton, an artist and independent
curator.She will give an
introduction to the current climate of the visual arts in Central America
and the key artistic positions and issues of the Central and South Americas.
Terra Nova I: Virginia Pérez-Ratton

Terra Nova is a new series hosted by the ICA in collaboration with the
London Curatorial Society, inviting renowned curators from distinct
regions of the globe to present the art scenes in which they operate. The
first lecture is by Virginia Pérez-Ratton, an artist and independent
curator. Pérez-Ratton is Founding Director of TEOR/éTica, Costa Rica, a
non-profit project promoting contemporary regional art practices,
Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design in San José (1994-98);
and curator for Central America and the Caribbean, 24th Sao Paulo
Biennale (1998) and 8th Cuenca Biennale, Ecuador (2004). She will give an
introduction to the current climate of the visual arts in Central America
and the key artistic positions and issues of the region.
