The Lisbon Earthquake: Two hundred and fifty years on

On 1 November 1755 Lisbon was devastated by a massive earthquake.


The reverberations went far beyond the loss of thirty thousand lives, and the religious doubts and counter-affirmations which followed have crucial relevance to dominant forms of belief today.
