Imperial Episodes: At its apogee in 1921, the British Empire was the largest the world had ever known.
During the nineteenth century, Great Britain and Russia engaged in what was termed the 'Great Game', which were confrontations in Central Asia and particularly on the north-west frontier of India. At the same time, they confronted each other over the 'Eastern Question' in the Mediterranean region, which was largely concerned with a declining Ottoman Empire. This lecture will look at the conflict between the two expanding empires.
