The National Heritage Memorial Fund

Reviewing 25 years of the NHMF funding the acquisition of land, buildings, art and artefacts for the nation

When Hugh Dalton set up the National Land Fund – the precursor to the National Heritage Memorial Fund – it was to purchase land and buildings as ‘a war memorial finer than any work of art in stone or bronze’. As the NHMF looks back on 25 years of funding the acquisition of a remarkable memorial of land, buildings, art and artefacts for the nation, the fund’s Chair Liz Forgan asks where next for the organisation. Liz Forgan OBE was formerly Managing Director of BBC Radio. She joined the National Heritage Memorial Fund and Heritage Lottery Fund as Chair in April 2001.
