Peter Tatchell, Sue Sanders and Robert Thompson will discuss the representation of the LGBT community in the 'straight' press.
To mark the end of LAGNAâs year-long Heritage Lottery Funded project, we are staging a special event at the London Metropolitan Archives. Peter Tatchell, who needs no introduction, will be talking on the subject, âQueer News through Straight Eyes â“ How the mainstream media filters news on LGBT issuesâ. With Peterâs huge experience of the press, from Bermondsey onwards, this is definitely going to be both revealing and challenging. Sue Sanders has been spearheading the campaign against homophobia in schools for many years. She also co-ordinated the first ever LGBT History Month in February, and will share her insights into the âstraightâ pressâs coverage of it (which ranged from the supportive to the vitriolic). Robert Thompson is Outreach Officer at LAGNA and he will give a presentation based on some of the 200,000 or so cuttings in our collection. There will also be some discussion time so everyone can have their say.
