This seminar will examine the evolution of marine meteorological ideas from Franklin, through Beaufort and Maury to the present day.
January 2006 provides a fascinating conjunction of anniversaries relating to three key marine meteorologists: the 300th anniversary of the birth of Benjamin Franklin; the 200th anniversary of the birth of Matthew Fontaine Maury; and the 200th anniversary of Francis Beaufortâs proposal of a âscale of windsâ.
