The Promenade Concerts have been a leading feature of Londonâs musical life, and promoted by the BBC for many decades. There is increasing interest in the history of the Proms as a cultural event, and in analysing what the programmes reveal about changing tastes and changing repertory. This discussion will draw on recent research into the organisation, funding and programming of the season.

Gabriel Josipovici is a novelist, playwright, essayist, literary critic and historian, who taught for many years at the University of Sussex.
