Islam in Europe

In this introductory lecture, Tariq Ramadan, Europe’s leading Islamic thinker and one of Time’s 100 most important innovators for the 21st century, shares his vision for faithful Muslims living in Europe

In this introductory lecture, Tariq Ramadan, Europe’s leading Islamic thinker and one of Time’s 100 most important innovators for the 21st century, shares his vision for faithful Muslims living in Europe, offering a bridge between Islamic values and Western culture. Ramadan proposes a solution to the perceived ‘clash of civilisations’ between the West and the Muslim world, a new model to replace the existing dichotomous choice for Muslims caught between eschewing fundamental beliefs to integrate into a secular society, and continuing to use the holy lands as a point of reference and thus retreating into a community shut off from the surrounding culture.
Ramadan has recently been appointed visiting professor at St Antony’s College, Oxford, and is the author of numerous books, including the recently published Western Muslims and The Future of Islam.
