The Holocaust in Cinema

Film Screening & Round-table Discussion

A special event to mark the publication of Uncovering the Holocaust: The International Reception of Night and Fog (Wallflower Press, 2006), produced on the 50th anniversary of the release of Alain Resnais' Night and Fog (Nuit et Brouillard). The evening will begin with an illustrated lecture by the book's editor who will track the history of the appreciation of the film, now regarded as one of the most important cinematic works to attempt to deal with the horrors of the Holocaust. The lecture will be followed by a screening of Night and Fog and Even Statues Die (Les Statues meurent aussi). A panel of experts will then explore the legacy of Night and Fog fifty years after its first controversial release, and discuss issues around the representation of the Holocaust in cinema and the moving image. In English.
