On the interpretation of referring expressions.
Mai is a graduate student working on the interpretation of referring expressions, such as articles, demonstratives and pronouns, using corpus data. She is interested in how exactly hearers work out the intended reference when speakers use such expressions as a man, the man, this man, he, etc. and the different factors which affect this process.
