The world's design studio?

Join the RSA and University of the Arts for a panel discussion.

The panel will include Ivor Tiefenbrun MBE, founder and Managing Director of Linn Products Ltd and Lauren Moriarty, textile and product designer.

The event will be chaired by Luqman Arnold, Chair of the Design Museum.

Is there a viable long-term future for the UK as a nation with little or no manufacturing but instead a reliance on the creative industries? Will foreign-based manufacturers really base their design studios in the UK while locating their manufacturing bases in their home countries or in low-cost locations? If manufacturing is no longer viable in the UK’s high-wage economy, why are the Japanese-owned UK car factories among those companies’ most efficient plants? And how can designers work in isolation from factories without a detailed understanding of the manufacturing processes which will be required to make their designs real and which may, in turn, stimulate further creative thought?

Audience members will have an opportunity to ask questions.
