Architects' Own Homes: Sarah Featherstone and Laurie Chetwood

A look at two architects' fascinating homes.

Sarah Featherstone, Featherstone Associates:

Sarah Featherstone’s own home is inserted into a narrow and potentially awkward east London site. It’s a great example of a ‘courtyard house’, which looks inward, providing privacy from neighbouring buildings whilst maximising light with an internal glazed courtyard. Inside, spaces are opened up and visually connected to create a sociable, ‘friendly’ house.

Laurie Chetwood: Chetwood Associates:

Laurie Chetwood’s family home is a stunning re-working of a 1930’s cedar kit house. Chetwood’s interest in exploring natural forms led him to take inspiration from the life cycle of the butterfly to create this eye-catching ‘Butterfly House’.
