A talk about the UKâs vibrant contemporary eco Fashion scene and textile design with an environmental agenda. Part of the Chelsea Programme.
Rebecca Earley â“ fashion designer, researcher and curator of the Crafts Councilâs current exhibition, âWell Fashioned: Eco Style in the UKâ â“ will talk about some of the principles behind the UKâs vibrant contemporary eco Fashion and Textile design scene.
Over a two-year period Earley selected work from 20 UK designers to create the content of the âWell Fashionedâ exhibition and in this talk sheâll also explain how the exhibition concepts were developed and designed.
Earley has continued to produce unique womenswear with an environmental agenda since graduating from Central St Martin's Fashion MA in 1994 with an award winning 'exhaust printing' heat transfer technique that produces printed textiles with no water pollution and minimal chemical usage. Her new âTop 100â project, the reinvention of one hundred second hand polyester blouses into unique one-offs with âadded valueâ, will be on show in the exhibition at the Crafts Council until 4th June. www.craftscouncil.org.uk/exhib/wellfashioned
Rebecca Earley is Senior Research Fellow at Chelsea College of Art & Design within the Textile Environmental Design (TED) Project.
