Faïza Guène is the daughter of Algerian immigrants who moved to France before she was born. She grew up in Les Courtillieres, one of Parisâ large public housing projects in the north-eastern suburbs. Faïza, who is only 20 years old, will discuss Just Like Tomorrow, her funny yet poignant and topical first novel about a 15-year-old girl of Moroccan descent living on a run-down estate in the Paris suburbs. The novel was published last year in France to huge critical acclaim and became an instant beststeller; the translation by Sarah Adams is published by Chatto and Windus.
This event is part of the 2006 Mosaïques Festival. For more about Mosaïques: www.institut-francais.org.uk/mosaiques
