The first in a programme of annual lectures in honour of FACT's late Chairman, Roy Stringer, who was instrumental in the development of FACT. Roy's close friend and internationally renowned sociologist, philosopher, designer and pioneer of information technology Ted Nelson, will launch this significant new event in FACT's annual calendar. Best known for coining the terms "hypertext", "hypermedia" and "virtualityâ, Tedâs main aim is to make computers easily accessible to ordinary people. Since founding his Xanadu project in 1960 he has emerged as something of a controversial, radical figure referred to as "one of the most influential contrarians in the history of the information age". Ted and Roy were exhilarated by each otherâs designs, and Tedâs talk will include the concept of good design and his views on the world wide web - sure to start discussions that will echo throughout Liverpool and the world (real and virtual) beyond.
