As a young activist in apartheid South Africa, Kumi fought injustice and through collective action, helped to bring down one of the most oppressive regimes of the 20th century. Now as an international authority on global poverty he is at the forefront of the movement to change our world for the 21st century.
Dr Kumi Naidoo, one of the leading voices on global poverty and the need for change in world society in the 21st century, will deliver the last in this yearâs series of Saturday Evening Lectures at the University of Dundee this weekend.
Dr Naidoo grew up in South Africa and as a young man joined the struggle against the apartheid regime. That struggle against injustice, fought through collective action, helped to bring down one of the most oppressive regimes of the 20th century.

His lecture is titled "Rethinking Democracy: Governance, Civil Society and the deepening democratic deficit".
There will be a Q&A session following the lecture, chaired by George Reid MSP, Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament. Mr Reid hosted an Africa Day at the Scottish Parliament last year at which Dr Naidoo spoke.
