Exhibition assistant Maria Ranauro will give an introductory discussion of James Cowie's 'Self-portrait: The Blue Shirt' (1950).
To accompany the critically-acclaimed exhibition 'Divided Selves: The Scottish Self-Portrait from the 17th Century to the Present', we invite you to a series of short lunchtime talks each focusing on a single picture from the exhibition. This week Maria Ranauro will discuss James Cowie, a Glasgow School of Art graduate interested in both the classical tradition of painting and in surrealism who later became the renowned teacher of a whole generation of post-Second World War Scottish artists.
