Exhibition assistant Kate Cowcher will give an introductory talk on Duncan Grant's 'Self-Portrait' (c.1920)
To accompany the critically-acclaimed exhibition 'Divided Selves: The Scottish Self-Portrait from the 17th Century to the Present', we invite you to a series of short lunchtime talks each focusing on a single picture from the exhibition. This week Kate Cowcher will discuss Duncan Grant's 'Self-Portrait' (c.1920). Grant, influenced in particular by Matisse, exhibited in Roger Fry's Second Post-Impressionist Exhibition in 1912 and was an integral member of the Bloomsbury Group. J.M. Keynes, a member of the group and a lover of Grant's was persuaded to buy this portrait by him.
