Conspiracy Theories and the Politics of Fear

Bill Durodie, esteemed lecturer on risk, will investigate obsessions with conspiracy theories in contemporary culture.

These ‘Port Talks’ will see three leading speakers in their fields give talks about several issues that will be further explored during the festival itself. Each talk will be followed by an interactive discussion with the audience. Like the Battle itself, these Port Talks will put forward new arguments and ideas, and make a virtue of the robust exchange of different views. Each of the Port Talks will stand alone, intervening in the specific debate to which it is addressed. But each Talk is also designed to propagate the spirit of the Battle of Ideas, and to give members of the public a taste of the kind of discussion and intellectual engagement that they can expect during the festival itself. Each Port Talk is free and open to the public, and will take place in the convivial and unique setting provided by Goodenough College in central London.
