Vice or Innocence? Hogarth's Childhood

Just how did Hogarth's early years affect his later life and work?

Four siblings dead, his dad in debtor's prison and William himself apprenticed to a dreary trade: a pretty typical childhood for a London lad in the early 1700s. Just how did Hogarth's early years affect his later life and work?

His images show a commitment to the moral well-being of children and it didn't stop there: a governor of London's first home for abandoned children, Thomas Coram's Foundling Hospital, why did William Hogarth never grow up?

This exploration into Hogarth's childhood will be given by Lars Tharp, author, lecturer and broadcaster, who has appeared regularly on television including as ceramics expert on the BBC Antiques Roadshow, and as expert/presenter on other series.
