FILM AND CENSORSHIP

Deepa Mehta’s film Water (nominated for Academy Award in 2007), which tells the story of Indian widows in the 1930s, has been repeatedly banned by local Indian government under the pretence that the director had been poisoned by western influences and attempted to abusively expose the plight of Indian widows.

The discussion will provide a thought-provoking opportunity to explore and discuss issues around film and censorship globally.
