This discussion focuses on the work of artists intervening in the public sphere
Mark Wallingerâs reconstruction of Brian Hawâs Parliament Square protest re-opened the debate about artistsâ relationship to politics and public spaces. Was Wallingerâs installation more effective in raising public consciousness than Hawâs? This discussion focuses on the work of artists intervening in the public sphere: getting their hands dirty in public debates, and embracing â“ even courting â“ the mediaâs hysterical response.
Speakers: artists Mark Wallinger, Mark McGowan, Peter Kennard and Zoe Walker.
